FAQS

In this section we answer  the most common questions people have when considering phakic IOL procedure. For more detailed information, please, contact your ophthalmologist.

Phakic intraocular lens is a lens which is implanted within your eye to correct low to high myopia, hyperopia, hyperopia with astigmatism and also myopia with astigmatism providing excellent vision so you can get rid of your glasses and/or contact lenses.
EYECRYL Phakic range of lenses are made of hydrophilic acrylic, a highly biocompatible material.
LASIK is a very different approach. This procedure corrects myopia and astigmatism by reshaping the cornea by removing tissues after burning them with the laser beam. In some cases, the patient can develop dry eyes syndrome. LASIK procedure is irreversible. LASIK is not suitable for patient with thin corneas and a refractive error over -8.0D/-10.0D. The thickness of the cornea is not relevant for the EYECRYL Phakic procedure and myopias ranging from -0.5D up to -30.0D can be treated.
The EYECRYL Phakic IOL provides excellent corrected and uncorrected visual acuity. It also provides UV protection and correction for myopia up to -30D, hyperopia up to +10D, as well as correction of astigmatism. Another advantage is that the natural crystalline lens is preserved and if needed, the IOL can be removed or exchanged.
Good candidates for the EYECRYL Phakic IOL are patients with stable myopia, hyperopia, or astigmatism who are not suitable for LASIK due to thin corneas or high refractive errors. Patients should be at least 18 years old and have had a stable prescription for at least one year.
To determine if you are a candidate for the EYECRYL Phakic IOL, you will need a comprehensive eye examination, which includes measurements of your corneal thickness, pupil size, and anterior chamber depth, as well as an assessment of your overall eye health.
Yes, one of the major advantages of the EYECRYL Phakic IOL is that it is reversible. If needed, the IOL can be removed or exchanged without damaging the natural crystalline lens.
EYECRYL Phakic IOL procedures are performed by experienced ophthalmologists and refractive surgeons around the world. You can use the Find a Doctor feature on the EYECRYL website to locate a certified surgeon near you.
The EYECRYL Phakic IOL is implanted in the posterior chamber, between the iris and the natural crystalline lens. A small incision is made in the cornea and the IOL is inserted through this incision. The procedure is performed under local anesthesia and usually takes about 15-30 minutes.
No, the procedure is performed under local anesthesia (eye drops), so you will not feel any pain. You may feel some pressure during the procedure, but this is normal and should not be painful.
The procedure usually takes about 15-30 minutes per eye. You will need to spend a few hours at the clinic for pre-operative preparation and post-operative monitoring.
It is possible to treat both eyes on the same day, but many surgeons prefer to treat one eye at a time, with a short interval between procedures, to minimize the risk of complications.
Before the procedure, you should stop wearing contact lenses for at least one week (soft lenses) or three weeks (rigid lenses). You should also arrange for someone to drive you home after the procedure, as your vision may be blurry initially.
Most patients can return to normal activities within a few days after the procedure. However, you should avoid strenuous activities and swimming for at least 2-4 weeks after the procedure.
Most patients experience improved vision within 24-48 hours after the procedure. However, it may take a few weeks for your vision to fully stabilize. You will need to use eye drops for several weeks after the procedure.
The EYECRYL Phakic IOL is designed to last a lifetime. However, if needed, it can be removed or exchanged without damaging the natural crystalline lens.
Most patients achieve excellent uncorrected visual acuity after the EYECRYL Phakic IOL procedure and do not need to wear glasses for most activities. However, some patients may still need glasses for reading or other close-up tasks.
After the procedure, you will need to use prescribed eye drops for several weeks. You should avoid rubbing your eyes, swimming, and strenuous activities for at least 2-4 weeks. You should also wear sunglasses outdoors to protect your eyes from UV light.
You will need to have regular follow-up appointments with your surgeon to monitor your vision and eye health. Typically, you will have appointments at one day, one week, one month, three months, six months, and one year after the procedure.
As with any surgical procedure, there are some risks associated with the EYECRYL Phakic IOL implantation. These include infection, increased intraocular pressure, cataract formation, and halos or glare around lights. However, these complications are rare and can usually be managed effectively.
